5th Annual Chance Brownlee Memorial Benefit/South Texas Modified Championship Series @ South Texas Speedway, 6/27/09

The South Texas Modified Championship Series returned to Corpus Christi's South Texas Speedway for the 5th Annual Chance Brownlee Memorial benefiting the Shriners Hospital for Children. The Modifieds would be running round three of the 9-race series, with the Limited Modified competing in round two. With it's success in round one the Limited Modifieds competed amongst themselves with a winner-take-all, “team race.”
The race was named after young Chance Brownlee, who lost his life at age 16 after being born with a heart defect. Chance was an employee of Corpus Christi Speedway with his mother, Marcia ,who has worked as head scorekeeper for both of the gulf coast area speedway's.
Officers from Shriners Hospital were in attendance and recognized by the track, along with a silent auction of racing memorabilia, with proceeds going to the Shriners Hospital.
Also in action on the ¼ mile semi-banked clay oval were the Limited Late Models, Pure Stocks and Bombers, with nearly 100 cars, plus the Go-Karts filling the pits.

Webre Wins First at HOT Friday, June 26, 2009
|
ELM MOTT—Dan Webre Jr. from West picked up his first winner’s trophy of the season in the Cruiser feature Friday night at the Heart O' Texas Speedway. Russell Bullock from Waco was second and Mike and Michael Van Cleave from Bellmead were third.
Keith White from Academy took the win in the IMCA modified feature ahead of J.P. Dowell from Killeen and G.W. Egbert from Belton.
Brandon Stewart from Academy won the IMCA SportMod feature with White in second and Sid Kiphen from Gatesville in third.
White also picked up the win in the IMCA SportMod make up feature for the weather shortened program on June 12. Cory Tekell from Lorena was second and T.J. Green from Robinson ran third.
Charlie Norris from Hillsboro won the IMCA hobby stock feature. Chris Cogburn from Robinson was second and Charles Cosper from Belton finished third.
Cosper reached the checkered flag first in the IMCA hobby stock make up feature from June 12. Ray Kemp Jr. from Riesel and Andy Roller from Waco were second and third.
Jason Honey from Waco visited Victory Lane after a win in the street stock feature. Father and son, Mark and Brandon Geurin from Whitney, ran second and third.
Tommy Honey reached the finish line first in the pure stock feature followed by Jeff Shepperd and Melvin Kemp Jr., all from Waco.
Jordan Kornegay from China Spring won the junior mini stock feature followed by Dylan Shilling and Alex Norris, both from Elm Mott.
The top three Texas twister finishers were Jamie Herring from Killeen, James Webre from West, and Dustin Thompson from Mt. Calm.
Choice Lynch from Caddo Mills claimed the win in the Texas Wing Modified feature. Nick Cooper from Alvarado was second and Eddie Grmela from West took third.
