Abilene, Tx.,(Oct. 15th, 2011) After locking in ten drivers in each of the IMCA classes(Modifieds, Southern Sportmods, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks), the drivers who failed to make Sundays show got a second chance to grab starting spots up front with a repeat of Fridays procedures, this time for the outside row in the Big A-main and B-main.

The Young Gun Jr. Mini Shootout would also run its program with heats and feature. The 17th Annual Southern Challenge/Ryan Bard Memorial concludes on Sunday with gates opening at 11AM and final qualifying races beginning at 2PM.

Several drivers choose the option to drop qualifying spots from the Big B-Main in an attempt to better their starting spots. Modified National Points runner-up and Stock Car National Champion, Keith White gave up B-main opportunities in both the Modified and Stock Car. Chris Dawson(Modified), Tim Clonch(Stock Car) and Steve Hayes(Sportmod), plus most the Hobby Stock competitors opted to run tonight.

White Winds up in Winners Circle

After giving up a chance to be locked in to Sunday’s Big B-Main, Keith White(Academy) showed why he’s a national points contender. White worked his way up into the top five by halfway, then motored past race long leader Monte Bolton with five laps to go. After a late caution White was able to ease away from the second place battle between Neal Flowers and Charles Brewer.

As green waved on the 21-car, 20-lap IMCA Modified main, Bolton jumped out front chased by Flowers, Robby Edwards, Kelly Allen and Bob Sikes alongside Tim Clonch for fifth. Sikes and Clonch continued their scrap, with White and Brewer side by side behind them. Caleb Stone and Chris Dawson added to the two by two formations behind the lead quartet.

White and Brewer then cleared Sikes for fifth and sixth on lap 5, with Brewer going by Clonch as well. Brewer then put Allen back a spot while White, Clonch and Allen were three wide for fifth. At the crossed flags it was Bolton, Flowers, Edwards, Brewer and White in the top five. Brewer, using the top, got around Edwards for third on lap 10.

White followed Brewers line getting fourth from Edwards then dove back to the bottom under Brewer. Sikes went around in turn 1 collecting Chad Melton for a lap 13 caution. On the restart White got beside Flowers for second while Dawson took fourth from Brewer. White cleared Flowers on lap 14 and got alongside Bolton for the lead.

After a brief side by side battle White got the top spot on lap 15, as Dawson grabbed third from Flowers. Dawson got under Bolton on lap 16 and took the spot. While battling with Flowers for third, Bolton made contact with an infield tire to bring out a yellow on lap 17. White got away clean on the restart while Flowers and Brewer slugged it for second. Lightning McHayes takes Sportmod Honors

Flying the scheme of “Cars” Lightning McQueen, Eastland’s Steve Hayes was another driver to prove he could drop a guaranteed spot and better his position. Hayes got by early leader Kenneth Graves, who slowed before halfway. Hayes then held off George Egbert and Mark Patterson on two late restarts to grab the win in the 20-lap IMCA Southern Sportmod feature.

Graves beat pole sitter Tyler Fain into turn 1 to get out front of the 21-car event. Fain, Patterson, and Cory Williams fell in line while Hayes, came out of a three wide scramble with fifth. Hayes then picked off Williams for third as the top eight sorted out single file. Chad Hertel, Shane Priddy and Brian Heard went three abreast for sixth when caution waved for an infield tire kicked up on the track.

On the restart Hayes got around Patterson on top, then alongside Fain for second.. Hayes completed that pass on lap 4, while Egbert, Hertel and Heard were now three wide. Egbert got sixth from that fight, and then took fifth from Williams. Fain took a trip through the edge of the infield falling back to fifth. Graves slowed on lap 7 in turn 4 giving up the point to Hayes on lap 8.

Yellow waved on lap 9 for Graves stopped too close to the track. Hayes got a good jump on the restart and coming to halfway it was Hayes, Patterson, Egbert, Fain and Hertel in the top five. Justin Shaw and Priddy both went past Williams for sixth and seventh on lap 10. Egbert was looking outside Patterson for second while Hertel and Fain were side by side for fourth.

Todd Bartlett brought out a caution on lap 12 when he went around on lap 12. Once back to green, Shaw was looking high on Hertel for fifth. Shaw powered by Hertel, then Fain using the top on lap 14. Robert Crabtree spun and collected Kyle Wisdom for a lap 18 yellow.

Hayes got away on green, but Wisdom, Johnny Braswell and Roger Pierce tangled in turn 3, with Mike Easterwood and Heard making contact coming to yellow. Hayes got away from Patterson, Egbert and Shaw who had a gap to Fain, Robison and Hertel. Hayes would run unchallenged in the Braka Operating, Buckeye Supply, Rusteeze, Triple T Trucking, CenTex Motorsports, Big Chief Chassis by White.

White Wire to Wire for I-Stock Win

Keith White doubled up in two ways during the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature. White gave up a second spot in Sundays Big B-Main where he would have started on the pole, instead White drew the pole for the A-Qualifier. From there the National Champion showed the field nothing but his rear bumper. Bo Briley was able to close on White in traffic, but a sniff at the lead was all he got as White took his second win of the night.

White quickly jumped into the lead from the pole trailed by Briley, Mike McCarthy, Travis Sutherlin and Tim Clonch. Mart Wampler and Jody York got together on lap 1 for an early caution. Once back to green White and Briley began to break away, while Clonch pressured Sutherlin for fourth. As Clonch looked low on Sutherlin, Cory Davis was working the top side getting by both Clonch and Sutherlin for fourth.

Chris Hale Followed in Davis’ tracks(pun intended) to take fifth on lap 7. Davis kept the march forward on getting alongside McCarthy for third. At the mid-point it was White, Briley, Davis, McCarthy and Hale in the top five, with the leader coming up on traffic. Hale then got by McCarthy for fourth on lap 12.

As White fought to get through lapped traffic, Briley began to cut his lead with five to go. Clonch was able to work his way around McCarthy to take back fifth. Briley got to within a few car lengths of White with two to go. Talk Takes Top Spot in Hobby Stocks

In a race that took a while to get started, Hawley’s Tobie Talk did more than that. Talk got around early leader Amanda Brewer on lap 3 then built leads despite numerous cautions throughout the time shortened event. Talk was first to the checkers in the Happy Trails Rustic Furniture, Firestone, Danz Designs, Big Johns, CenTex Motorsports, Destroyer Chassis.

On the initial start of the scheduled 20-lap, 17-car event George Locke, Billy Briley and Alec Smith tangled in turn 1 to bring yellow back out. The second try wasn’t better as this time Chase Person and Jordan Lathram got together in turn 2. The third time was a charm with Brewer getting out front trailed by Talk, Aaron Elliott, Tommy Phillips and Wendall Kurts.

Brewer and Talk were side by side on lap 2 with Talk getting the advantage on lap 3. Elliott tried to follow him through, but fell back in line. Parson spun on lap 3 getting hung on an infield tire and giving Brewer a break as she spun on the other end of the track. Once back to green Brewer got sideways off turn 4 slowing Elliott and giving Phillips a run up top.

Brewer again got crossed up the next lap this time blocking Phillips and leaving an opening for Elliott to grab third. After two yellows for spins by Smith, Talk eased away from Elliott while Dustin Mims got by Kurts for fourth. Briley was next to put Kurts back a spot taking fifth on lap 6. Yellow waved on lap 6 for Jaron Shahon who was shedding body parts on the track.

On the restart Briley took third from Brewer, while Jerry West, who started dead last, made his way into the top five. West then snagged fourth from D. Mims as the race neared the proposed half way point. Derek Sparks spun in turn 2 on lap 13 for another caution prompting officials to cut the race to 15 laps. Talk got away clean while Briley snuck past Elliott for second. Briley couldn’t get close enough for a challenge as Talk walked across the line for the win

Marcum Masters Street Stocks

Tony Marcum caught a break early in the 20-lap Street Stock feature and parlayed it into a win. T. Marcum and John Rister made contact and went around, but Jonathon Wright had already spun on the other end of the track and got charged with the yellow. T. Marcum got by early leader Chris Pippin then took off from the pack and snagged the win.

Pippin grabbed the point on lap 1 followed by Bobby Cox, David Collins, T. Marcum and J. Rister. Aaron Elliott made an early charge going past Steve Marcum and J.. Rister for fourth. Wright went around in turn 4, while T. Marcum spun and collected J. Rister in turn 2 with Wright getting tagged with the yellow and T. Marcum his spot back, while J. Rister pitted with damage.

On the restart T. Marcum charged into the lead while Cox and Elliott ran side by side for third. That fight continued for three laps until Elliott finally secured the spot on lap 12. Up front T. Marcum was stretching out his advantage over Pippin, who held a gap back to Elliott in third. T. Marcum held his margin over Pippin as he scored the checkers.

Cooper Captures Young Guns Victory

John Freeman got out front early in the 15-lap Young Guns Jr. Mini Stock feature pursued by Bryce Pritchett, Jarred Marquez and Trinten Turley. Turley worked his way up to get the top spot on lap 3, with Brook Cooper getting by B. Pritchett for second. Cooper began looking outside Turley for the lead when yellow waved for debris.

On the restart Cooper was able to get around Turley for the top spot on lap 10. As Cooper edged away, Tyler Webb and B. Pritchett battled for third. Webb got the position followed by Jarrett Roberts. Webb and Roberts traded some paint fighting for third while Cooper was cruising to the victory.

White was the first I-stock driver to cross the finish line in the feature race with Jason Batt in second and Sam Sovey in third.

B.J. Dulock earned the win in the IMCA SportMod feature. Chris Cogburn was second, and Ronnie Bell, Jr. came in third.

Shannon Dulock won the IMCA hobby stock feature with Ray Kemp, Jr. in second and Andy Roller in third.

Doug Andrews was the Co-Driver winner in the street stock feature. He earned himself and a lucky fan a cash bonus. David Khoury and Tommy Kirkpatrick rounded out the top three.

Melvin Kemp picked up the pure stock feature win followed by Cody Shaw and Tommy Honey.

Jeff Williams reached the checkered flag first in the cruiser feature. Dwain Will ran second, and Andrew Richards took third.

Reagan Reed was the top of the Brazos Mini Sprint class with another win. Troy Wren tailed her in second, and Scott Blakely ran third.

Bobby Mercer, Jr. won the street stock feature. Doug Andrews and Matt Hood rounded out the top three.

Weston Glaser kept his hot streak alive with another win in the pure stock feature. Tommy Honey settled for second, and Jeff Shepperd ran third.

David Andrews, Marshall Sauseda, and William Dean were the top three in the cruiser feature.

Jarrett Roberts continued his domination in the junior mini stock class with another win. Jarrett Charnock took second, and Alexis DePalma ran third.

Tommy Hultz, George Clarkson, and John Fikes took home the trophies for first, second, and third in the Texas Twister class.

Pleasanton, Tx.,(June 16th, 2001) The racing action at Pleasanton’s I-37 Raceway at Newsome Motor Park was as hot as the weather, with several drivers possibly trying to make for missing the full moon during the off week. The track did as good of a job as possible to get a good racing surface despite week-long 100+ degree temperatures, and strong winds on race day, dust was kept to a minimum.

There were no return winners from the previous race night so any streaks went by the wayside. Several drivers returned to the Winners Circle or won in a different class, plus the IMCA Southern Sportmods had a first time winner and the Front Runners saw a win almost by default.

Dinsmore Gets First Win for new Daughter

After several weeks of disappointment and sorting out damage, Kerrville’s Greg Dinsmore refound his early season mojo and picked up the first for new baby daughter, Mackenzie. Dinsmore had to come from the back of the 15-car field after a flat on the initial start sent him to the tail after repairs. He then methodically picked off cars and got by early leader Joe Spillman. Once clear Dinsmore held off all challengers on restarts to grab his seventh win of the season.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified main saw the front row of Spillman and Tracy Fink stay wheel to wheel on lap 1 with Spillman leading by a bumper on lap 1. Fink fell in line second with Matt Fox, Robert Liese jr. and Dennis Taylor in tow. Billy Meyer and Allen Williams tangled on lap 1 in turn 2 for an early caution. On the restart Taylor and Darin Leonard got by Liese for fourth and fifth.

Dinsmore quickly made his way up to challenge Leonard for fifth when Fox spun and collected Liese, Mike McCarthy and Leonard who stopped to avoid contact. Once back to green, Dinsmore sailed around Leonard and Taylor for third, then got under Fink for second on lap 3. Spillman and Dinsmore were side by side for the lead on lap 4, with Dinsmore taking the spot on lap 5.

Fink drifted too high in turn 1 and got freight-trained by Taylor, Leonard and Bill Pittaway. Caution waved on lap 6 for Marlin Samford stopped in turn 2. Dinsmore got a good launch on green, while second through fifth ran nose to tail. Jason Borlace and Fink, who blew a motor, got tangled on lap 8 in turn 4 for a yellow.

Back under green, Dinsmore eased away, but Fox spun in turn 1 with Borlace, Meyer and Samford spinning to avoid Fox. On the restart Fox spun again, ending his night. Finally back to green, Taylor got by Spillman for second as the crossed flags were shown with Dinsmore, Taylor, Spillman, Leonard and Jamie Campbell in the top five.

Leonard got past Spillman on lap 10, followed by Campbell. Taylor was trying Dinsmore for the lead, but spun himself from second on lap 13 in turn 4 to bring out a yellow. Dinsmore got away clean on the restart leaving Leonard and Campbell battling for second. Williams ended his night when he slapped the front stretch wall on lap 16 and shed numerous body panels.

When green waved again, Pittaway was putting the heat on Spillman for third, as Dinsmore eased away from Leonard. Spillman was able to hold off the defending champ, Pittaway. Out front it was Dinsmore inching farther ahead of Leonard

going on to take the checkers in the racetechinfo.com, Sundowner RV, Ryan Bard Safety Foundation, JBHotshots, Good Ol’ Days Garage, Cen-Tex Motorsports, Harris Chassis.

“I finally got the car back(to where it was),” said Dinsmore. “It felt good.. It had a little push in it, but it was really fast. When I installed the new birdcages, I had the ‘clocking’ off. I called Bob(Harris) after the heats and he suggested some changes that were right on.”

“I cut a tire on the first start. So we got it changed and I had to restart all the way at the back. I got caught in the melee and bent the rim over into the tire. Thankfully the car was super drivable and super fast.”

“I was able to find the fast line first. Usually once you do others will follow you so it’s important to get there first and get out front. If you don’t you have to try to find a way to get around someone running it. It’s better just to get it done and get it over with.”

“There towards the end the track started going away and the fuel load burnt off so the rear percentage was going away and I tried a different line. If I didn’t push it as hard it would push. There’s still a couple things to work on..”

“It was the first win with the new baby. It’s awesome. The baby just trucks right along and isn’t bothered by the noise. It’s amazing. Candace had her at the motel until it cooled off, but was here in time for the our feature win.. That was pretty cool.”

Minten Motors to First Sportmod Win

Young Robby Minten(La Coste) ran the race of his life to snag his first ever IMCA Southern Sportmod victory. Minten, who had been snake bitten all season, took the point on lap 1 and never gave it up. Minten was pressured early by Anthony Gordon, then veteran Brian Rye on restarts. With the help of Uncle Ray(Doyon) and Brandon Blaylock, Minten finally hit the set up, held the fast line and scored his inaugural feature win.

As the 20-car, 20-lap IMCA Southern Sportmod feature roared to green, Minten led into turn 1 trailed by Gordon, Pat Lyon and Rye along side Michael Hernandez. Behind them it was three wide for sixth with multi-time winner an track champ, Johnny Torres making contact in the fight and losing spots. Torres rebounded to take fifth from Hernandez on lap 3, then fourth from Lyon on lap 4.

Up front Minten had crept away from Gordon who now had Rye along side taking second on lap 4. Moe VanKirk and Chuck Perry got by Lyon on lap 5 for sixth and seventh. Rye and Gordon made contact scrapping for second, with Torres sneaking past, and Hernandez with big run up top getting by all three. Randy Yount brought out a yellow on lap 9 when he got turned around..

As the race resumed and came to halfway it was Minten Rye, Hernandez, Torres and Gordon in the top five. Perry made a mid-race charge getting by Gordon on lap 10, then Torres for fourth on lap 11. Two laps later Perry grabbed third from Hernandez, while Lyon, Michael Walker and Greg Rohmer were three wide for seventh.

With two to go, Minten had a 4-car length edge on Rye and Perry, but Gordon spun in turn 2 to bring out a yellow and set up a green, white, checker finish. The young Minten held his composure on green and inched out by two car lengths, with Hernandez, Torres and VanKirk three abreast for fourth. Rye and Perry battled side by side on the final lap as Minten took the checkers in the 3D Landscaping, Boehle Signs & Graphics, Shepherds Racing Engine powered, Empire(Jim Mikulencak) Chassis.

“We tried a new set up,” exclaimed Minten. “It was something totally different and the car just hooked up on the top. It was a rocket. I was nervous when Anthony(Gordon) brought out that caution with two to go. I knew Johnny(Torres) was somewhere behind me and just knew I’d get passed by him or one of the Rye’s. I just stayed focused and tried to it my marks.”

“Brandon Blaylock helped me a lot with this set up, and my Uncle Ray(Doyon) is always there. We tried a whole new thing, and it worked. Before this race I was ready to throw in the towel. I was frustrated. It seemed everywhere I’d go, we’d wreck, spin out or do stupid stuff. Finally we got it all together.”

Dancer Out Does Limited Late Model Field

It’s usually not easy to jump into an unfamiliar car and find a win, but AJ Dancer(Red Rock) showed that Greg Dinsmore wasn’t the only driver capable of the feat. Dancer climbed in the Walt Clark owned car, got by early leader Andrew Hesler past halfway and motored on to the victory.

The Limited Late Model feature got off to a rocky start, a sign of things to come.. Leland Waddell led the way off turn 2 on the initial start, but got bumped by Hesler sending him around in turn 4. On the second start Waddell led in to turn 1, Shane Moore tried to crossover in turn 4, but spun and continued. Waddell’s time out front ended on lap 1 when spun in turn 2 scattering the field for an early caution.

Hesler led on the restart followed by Robert Danielson, Matt Hodge and multi-time winner Trey Votion. Votion had just gotten by Danielson for third when Chris Jones spun for lap 2 yellow. Once back to green, Dancer got around Harlin Covert and Danielson for fourth. Moore looped it in turn 2 for a lap 5 caution. It wasn’t long after green waved that Hodge, apparently spotting the turn 2 troll, got hung on an infield tire for yellow on lap 6.

Finally under green, the top three, Hesler, Votion and Dancer, eased away from

Covert and Gary Hunter. Dancer used the top to go past Votion on lap 7 for second and quickly got along side Hesler for the lead. Dancer got the nose out front only to have a caution for a spin by Jones erase the pass. Hesler and Dancer edged away while Covert and Votion ran door to door for third.

Covert secured the spot on lap 11, while Dancer again tried the high groove for the lead. Dancer was able to complete the pass on Hesler to lead on lap 13. Hunter spun on lap 15 after contact from Richard Bartosh, who was sent to the back. On the restart Covert was looking low on Hesler for second.

Moore spun in turn 4 was trying to roll start his car in front of the leaders, Covert slowed to avoid contact with Votion and Hunter getting by. Yellow for Moore’s stalled car in turn 4 gave Covert the spots back. Dancer got a good jump on the restart while Hesler, Covert and Votion battled for second. At the checkers it was Dancer in the Eagle Racing, VISA/Mastercard, Parks Engine Service, Shaw Chassis with a Camaro clip taking the win, while Hunter nipped Votion at the line.

“Walt must build a good car,” replied Dancer. “I really didn’t do a whole lot. I think Walt put this car together with pieces of everything. There may even be a Volkswagen Bug under there. I used the top because everyone else was running the bottom. I guess I’m not as smart as them. Up top it’s closer to the edge.”

“I think the secret of my success, is not thinking. I really don’t think about anything, if I do I’ll just mess it up. Trey(Votion) and Drew(Hesler) were as fast as us, but they just didn’t find the upper groove.”

“With myself and TJ working on it and AJ driving it, it’s a winning combination,” added car owner Clark.

Casey Captures Street Stock Honors

San Antonio’s Tommy Casey found his way back to the Winners Circle after several years. Casey grabbed the point on green, then went wire to wire in the 15-lap feature that went without a caution. At the checkers Casey held a half straightaway margin over defending track champ Wade Jones.

As green waved on the Street Stock feature Casey led the pack into turn 1 with AJ Wernette and Mike Lyon side by side for second while Aaron Leddy was door to door with Jones for fourth. As Casey led back to the line on lap 1 AJ Wernette, Lyon and Leddy were almost three wide for second. As that battle sorted out, AJ Dancer got by both Leddy and AJ Wernette for third.

Stephan Danielson, Jones and Leddy went three abreast for fourth on lap 3. Danielson got the spot and was looking low on Dancer for third. Dancer held Danielson off and began pressuring Lyon for second. With Dancer trying under Lyon, Danielson tried even lower, but ended up doing a 360 to avoid contact losing several spots.

Jones, running the middle, then began to pick off cars on his way to the front. Jones got by Dancer on lap 9 then Lyon for second on lap 10, but found himself trailing Casey who had built a good margin. Dancer took third from Lyon in the final laps. Back up front it was Casey, in the Clays Auto Parts & Machine Shop, Richard & Bea Villanueva, Odie Automotive/Garfield Shanklin, Camaro grabbing the checkers comfortably ahead of Jones.

“We’re finally starting to get a handle on the car,” commented Casey. “The guys here are helping us out a lot. Between the other racers, like the Wernette group and AJ Dancer, and reading some books we’re finally getting it to hook up on the dry slick. We’ve really been bad on the slick tracks.”

“I don’t care what anyone says there’s not enough time on these short tracks to try to look back for who’s coming. Chris Swenson always tell me to adjust the brake bias while I’m driving, but I’ll wait until under caution. I’ve got enough to do with the steering wheel in my hands.”

“We’ve done some adjusting on the springs, wheel offset and weight jacks to get the car better. Just searching to find the best combination for this track.. Clay(Kotara) and Roger have got us a good engine package.”

“It’s been two or three years since I’ve won, and it was on Father’s Day Weekend too. Maybe I should just race on that weekend every year.”

The Pure stock 20-lapper saw a return face to the Winers Circle, although the car is very familiar with the place. Adam Torres(San Antonio), driving the former championship car of Marc Roy, jumped out front early and never looked back going flag to flag for the win. It was the first win in several years for Torres in the 24/7 Towing, Tator Plumbing, Chevy.

Torres got a good jump from the pole, while Tim Watson and Karoline Campbell were side by side trailed by Eric Watson and Brandy Ramzinski. T. Watson secured the second spot, while Jarrett Payton got by E. Watson for fifth. Payton and Ramzinski both got past Campbell, with Frank Okruhlik charging up behind them. Okruhlik’s wedding night came to an end when he lost an axle on lap 5(Honeymoon for the newlyweds stated early)

On the restart, Payton battled with T. Watson for second but lost a right front tire and stopped in the front stretch. Torres got a big advantage on the restart while Cody Leonard got along side Ramzinski for fourth. After picking off the spot, Leonard got around Campbell for third on lap 10. Up front Torres had built a full straightaway lead.

Leonard took second from T. Watson on lap 14, but found himself well behind Torres who easily cutting through traffic. Leonard tried to cut into Torres’ lead but to no avail as the laps wound down. Janel Hilla worked her way past Campbell for fourth in the final laps, but it was Torres crossing under the checkers with the convincing victory.

In the Front Runner feature, Somerset’s Hailee Marcx was just as surprised as anyone when she found herself in the Winners Circle at the races completion. Marcx was one of only two cars left running as the race was called by the 10-run mercy rule. Marcx was in the right place after two groups, battling for the lead, found themselves in a heap and received the black flag.

The race started off innocent enough with track promoter Jim Knudtson leading into turn 1. Knudtson slowed while Jimmy Carroll sailed by off turn 2 to lead lap 1 followed by Roy Easler jr., Landon Sowder and Marcx. Knudtson was black flagged by his son and race director for going too slow(Happy Fathers Day !). Anthony Maciel got by Marcx for fourth, with Charles Earnhardt III following to fifth.

Easler, using the top, got by Carroll to lead lap 4 then got hung in slower traffic. Carroll was able to sneak by of turn 2, but Easler got back to the lead before lap 5. Maciel and Ch. Earnhardt got together in turn 4 for a lap 6 caution. On the ensuing restart, Easler held the lead but was pressured by Carroll and Cody Earnhardt. Co.

Co. Earnhardt and Carroll traded some paint with Carroll getting into the back of Easler. As Easler began going around he was finished off by Co. Earnhardt who had nowhere to go. All three received the black flag much to the crowds disapproval. This put Ch. Earnhardt back out front after making repairs from his earlier incident.

Ch. Earnhardt and Sowder pulled away on green to settle it among themselves. While fighting for the lead in the final laps contact sent both sailing out the pit exit leaving only Marcx and Cindy Snider, who was down a couple laps, on the track. Officials decided to black flag Ch. Earnhardt and Sowder, then declared Marcx, in the Howies Lawn & Landscaping, Alamo Homes, Bettis Storage, 6-Pack Racing Grand Am the winner.

“It was pretty weird,” said Marcx. “I was just out there racing and the next thing I know I’m in Victory Lane. I saw those guys battling ahead of me. That last wreck scared me when they went off the track as fast as they did. I didn’t know what to think.”

“It’s awesome getting the win no matter how it happens. We’re doing good in the points, second behind the 67(Jimmy Carroll) and we’re going to pick up some points on him tonight.”

Front Runner heat winners; 12 Roy Easler jr., 67 Jimmy Carroll

Chase Jupe padded his IMCA modified point lead with another win in the feature with Keith White in second and Benji Kirkpatrick in third.

Chris Grusendorf claimed his second IMCA hobby stock feature win of the year followed by Ray Kemp, Jr. and Jeremy Oliver.

Jason Gauntt, Doug Andrews, and Tommy Kirkpatrick were the top three in the street stock feature.

Jeff Shepperd reached the finish line first in the pure stock feature. Wade White took second and Weston Glaser ran third.

Steve Wade was driver of the week and took home his first winner’s trophy of the season in the cruiser feature. Andrew Richards finished second, and Dwain Wills was third.

Emil Horak, Jr. outlasted the other Demolition Derby hopefuls in a hard fought battle for the main prize. Richard Morosky was second, and Joe Williams, third. Williams’ car was judged the best looking before the derby. Morosky’s car was the worst looking after the derby, and Tommy Honey got the nod for the best hit of the contest.

T.J. Green picked up his first win of the season in the IMCA SportMod feature with Cody Frank and Green’s brother, Kevin, in second and third.

Ray Kemp Jr. was another first time winner in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Michael Guenat and Jeremy Oliver rounded out the top three.

Bobby Mercer Jr. added a second feature win to his season record in the Street Stock feature. The Pure Stock win went to Tommy Honey, also his second of the year.

Jay Hutson claimed the Cruiser feature and Jarrett Roberts won the Junior Mini Stock event.

Sam Sovey lead all 15-laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature event and was first to the checkered flag in front of White and Robin Batt but his car was found to be illegal in post-race inspection. White was awarded the win and remains a perfect four for four in the Stock Cars in 2011. Batt challenged White throughout the race and finished second ahead of wife Robin and Matt Guillaume.

Lap after lap Randy Doyle stayed smooth and consistent to claim his first IMCA SportMod feature event of the season. Cody Frank pressured Doyle throughout the 20-lap event and finished second followed by T.J. Green, Kevin Green and Bobby Mercer, Jr.

In Street Stocks, Brandon Geurin and David Khoury raced nose-to-tail for the second half of the feature event with Geurin holding off a last lap pass attempt to claim his first win of 2011. Bobby Mercer, Jr., Tommy Kirkpatrick and Gordon Coble rounded out the top five.

Wade White held off Tommy Honey to win the Pure Stock event while William Dean claimed his first Cruisers feature win. Jarrett Roberts topped the Jr. Mini Stocks and Johnny Japort continued his winning ways in Twisters.

Pleasanton, Tx.,(March 26th, 2011) After years as an I-37 Raceway supporter and former sponsor, Manning Safety Services’ Joanna Newsome-Gonzalez signed up for multi-year sponsorship deal that included renaming of the 1/4 mile semi-banked, dirt track. The track, now known as Newsome Motor Park at I-37 Raceway, will continue with business as usual running six classes(IMCA Modifieds and Sportmods, Limited Late Models, Street and Pure Stocks, plus the Front Runner) on scheduled Saturday nights.

The action lost during last weeks Super Moon was made up for during this nights racing with many spins and crashes throughout the events. Fortunately nothing more serious than racecar damage and drivers pride was hurt during the misfortunes.

On track it was business as usual also with the usual suspects in the usual places, out front. One new face was able to find Victory Lane, two others returned after wins last year, while two continued to show their dominance.

Dinsmore Does It Again

To say that Kerrville’s Greg Dinsmore has been on a hot streak lately, would be somewhat of an understatement. Tonights result would be no different though it wasn’t as easy. After heat race issues Dinsmore would start at the back, but quickly worked his way forward. Dinsmore was then forced to chase Jamie Campbell, who was running the preferred line. After several attempts Dinsmore snuck past Campbell and edged away for the win. Campbell held second with Darin Leonard, Robert Liese jr. and Bob Leinweber completing the top five.

On the initial start of the 20-lap IMCA Modified main, Leinweber was first into turn 1 but got sideways, with Liese getting the point coming of turn 2. In the back Gilbert Amezquita went around for a quick yellow. The second start saw the front row stay side by side until Liese got the advantage to lead lap 1. Campbell got past Leinweber for second, with Dinsmore quickly charging to third.

Matt Fox got by Leinweber on lap 1 for fourth. Campbell and Dinsmore both swept past Liese and were side by side at the line with Dinsmore having the bumper out front(from my view). Liese and Fox spun in turn 1 for a lap 3 yellow, with officials awarding Campbell the point. As the top two motored away on green, Bill Pittaway got by Jon Halstrom for fourth.

Leinweber went around in turn 1 to bring out a lap 6 caution. Dinsmore continued to stalk Campbell once back under green, while Leonard got by Halstrom for fourth. Fox found himself going around in turn 4 for another quick caution. Back under green Liese was able to get by a slowing Pittaway. At the crossed flags it was Campbell with Dinsmore on his bumper, Leonard, Liese and Pittaway.

Halstrom, Fox and Leinweber tangled in turn 4 for a lap 10 caution. Dinsmore tried the bottom on Campbell, who held the fast line, but found nothing and moved back up. Fox’s night ended with third spin on lap 11 sending him to the trailer. This time Dinsmore went into turn 1 a little higher then used the middle to get along side Campbell off turn 2. Dinsmore was able to out drag Campbell down the back stretch to get the lead on lap 12. Halstrom spun on lap 15 to bring out a yellow.

On the restart Leonard tried to take second from Campbell, while Leinweber got by Pittaway for fifth. Dinsmore and Campbell edged away the final laps. Campbell gave chase, but couldn’t mount a return challenge as Dinsmore in the racetechinfo.com, Ryan Bard Safety Foundation, Sundowner RV Repair, Wells Designs, Cen-Tex Motorsports, Good Ol’ Days Garage, Lowery Plumbing, JB Hotshots, Wells Race Engines, Harris Chassis grabbed the victory.

“Jamie(Campbell) made me work for this one,” commented Dinsmore. “It was a good race. He had the preferred line and was making it work. I’m happy to see him holding his own. This year he has a lot better car, one of (Chris) Swenson’s old cars. He made it work like Chris used to.”

“There was nothing on the bottom tonight. He was shutting down in the corners earlier than I wanted so I went in a little higher then headed to the middle. There was just a little patch of brown to get a hold of that you had to put the right rear in to get(drive) off the corner.”

“I’m starting to feel more heat from the competition out here. It’s enjoyable to see the Modifieds putting on a better show for the fans. We put a lot of time and money in these cars and want it to be the show. I don’t want to win by big margins, I’d just as soon take second if we put on a show for the fans.”

Doyon Takes ‘Express’ Lane to the Winners Circle

Ray Doyon III finally got the bugs worked on his new car with the work of his crew and Steve Whiteaker jr. Doyon transformed that effort into a win in the 20-lap IMCA Southern Sportmod feature. Doyon grabbed the lead on green and was challenged by JJ Jennings. Jennings briefly got a peek at the lead only to have caution negate the pass. Doyon was able to hold Jennings and Johny Torres off the rest of the race for victory. Torres got by Jennings for second with Jennings, Mickey Helms and Moe VanKirk rounding out the top five.

In a race that saw more action than the Middle East, JC Pilcher and Doyon stayed side by side as the green waved. Doyon powered off turn 2 with the lead, but going into turns 3-4 Pilcher went around scattering the field. Randy Bennett went over the hill, but returned during the caution. On the second start Pilcher led into turn 1, but Doyon crossed over and ducked under Pilcher for the lead on lap 1 with Pilcher, Michael Hernandez, VanKirk and Jennings in pursuit.

Torres found himself going around for a lap 1 caution. On the restart, Hernandez got by Pilcher, but Jason Stanly slapped the front stretch wall to bring the yellow quickly back out. Once back to green, the top six got clear until Hernandez slipped off turn with VanKirk and Jennings getting by, while Michael Walker got past Randy Yount for seventh. VanKirk then used the high side to get second from Pilcher, but yellow waved for a spin by Tom Grothues who collected Larry Jernigan.

On the restart VanKirk repassed Pilcher for second, with Walker getting fifth from Hernandez. VanKirk then gave up second to Jennings as Pilcher followed to third. Jennings and Pilcher were side by side when Bennett spun to bring out a caution. Coming to yellow Hernandez clipped the front stretch wall. As green waved again Jennings ducked under Doyon and beat him to the line, but Pilcher spun from third bringing out a yellow.

The next restart saw the top three break out front, while Yount got past Chuck Perry for fourth. Torres then moved in on Hernandez, who may have broke something earlier, and slapped the wall again for a lap 9 yellow. As green waved again, Torres got by Perry for fourth with Yount coming along to fifth. At halfway it was still Doyon, Jennings and VanKirk showing the way.

Helms, in his first night at I-37 Raceway this season, worked his way to the top five getting by Perry and Yount. Torres caught and passed VanKirk on lap 11 for third. Jernigan and Bennett had duo spins in turns 12 for a lap 13 yellow. Jennings took a look under Doyon as the green flew, while Grothues got by Yount for sixth. VanKirk and Helms were wheel to wheel on lap 14 with Helms getting the spot

Grothues was next to go by VanKirk using the high line on lap 16. Up front Torres was challenging Jennings for second. The two were side by side on lap 17, until Torres got the nose out front on lap 18. As the duo battled for second, Doyon put some distance on them and ran to the victory in the 3-D Landscaping & Irrigation, Cavender Toyota, Spreen Race Engines, Express Chassis.

“I was lucky to start on the front,” replied Doyon. “I just tried to stay focused, hit my marks and try not to worry who was behind me. After JJ(Jennings) got by me, then pulled along side under yellow, I told myself to focus, focus, focus. I felt like the car was really good. In (turns) 1-2 I was able to hit my marks, in (turns) 3-4 I bobbled a couple times. I kept looking for JJ under me again, but I never saw him show the nose again.””

“It got in my head a little bit, but I tried to stay focused on running the high side. I’ve seen (Steve) Whiteaker jr. running these Express cars on the high side with a lot of success. In the back of my mind I just thought to stay smooth, hit my marks and do what he does.”

“Whiteaker came up and helped me set up this new Express car the first time. After the first race we checked the ride heights and borrowed some scales. We found a few things wrong, tweaked it and added a little weight. Then it was just a matter of getting up on the wheel. After spinning myself out of second last week, I just need to stay focused. It’s been a lot of long nights and help from family and friends..”

Another Double Dip for Dinsmore

In a race that saw the now infamous turn 2 troll show his head, literally and figuratively, Greg Dinsmore slowly worked his way through the carnage getting by Andrew Hesler in the latter stages of the 15-lap event. Dinsmore then held off Hesler the final circuits for the victory followed by Hesler, Robert Danielson, Gary Hunter and Craig Crawley.

Shane Moore jumped out front at the start of the Limited Late Model feature trailed by Hesler, Larry Lewis and Ron Sprayue side by side with Landon Farquar. Lewis got crossed up on lap 1 stacking up the pack, with Dinsmore, AJ Dancer and Trey Votion moving up. While battling with Sprayue and Dinsmore, Dancer slipped up the track in turn 2 clipping Votion and collecting Chris Jones and Hunter.

On the restart Dinsmore snuck past Farquar. But Matthew Hodge found the turn 2 troll and spun to bring the yellow back out. The next restart saw Lewis slap the front stretch wall. Once back to racing, Moore slid up in turn 2 giving Hesler an opening to grab the lead on lap 6 while Dinsmore got by Farquar for fourth. Moore, Sprayue and Dinsmore were three wide for second on lap 8. Moore slowed and pulled off, with Dinsmore getting the spot.

Farquar went around between turns 1-2 to bring out a yellow on lap 11. On the restart Dinsmore tracked Hesler into turn1 then went high in turn 3, diamond off turn 4 ducking under Hesler for the lead on lap 12. Once clear, Dinsmore inched away, while Danielson and Hunter battled for fourth. Hodge again found his troll in turn 2 going around on lap 18.

On the restart Sprayue did a 360 and kept the power on with no caution. Hesler tried to stay with Dinsmore, but at the line it was Dinsmore in the TazRacing, Sundowner RV, Quality Ambulance, Culligan Water Conditioner, Texas Concrete, Climate Control, Hansco Demolition, reworked Dinsmore Chassis scoring the win. Limited Late Model drivers were happy to learn that Dinsmore returned the keys of the car back to owner Gary Hunter for the remainder of the season.

“Patience prevails,” said Dinsmore. “I just waiting on the field to work itself out. The car was really working well. When you take your time and work on the car, it will pay you back. Changing it back helped in some spots with the track the way it was, but in other spots you needed the extra horsepower. I had to snap it loose a couple times.”

“I had to start in the back after trouble in the heat. It was overheating and I was

watching that and spun. It was pretty greasy slick. We changed it back to alcohol and put the two-barrel on to help keep it cool. Going to the smaller carb was part of getting the win.”

Dancer Dashes to Street Stock Checkers

AJ Dancer found himself in the right place at the right time as he scored the win the 15-lap Street Stock feature. As early leaders Tommy Casey and Wade Jones fought for the win the two made contact and found the wall. Dancer and Mike Lyon squared off the final laps for the win taken by Dancer in the Dancer Motorsports El Camino. Lyon, Billy Denton, Dennis Hilla and Casey completed the top five.

Casey came off the top of turn 2 with the lead as green flew on the Street Stock feature. Scott Stubbs saw his first night end early going over the turn 3 hill. Casey again shot off turn 2 with lead on the next start with Lyon, Denton and Dancer in tow. Denton and Dancer were side by side on lap 1 for third. Jones joined that scrap getting by both on lap 2 for the position.

Jones then got inside Lyon for second on lap 4, while Aaron Leddy used the top to get around Denton and Dancer. Jones closed on Casey for the lead as Leddy, Denton and Dancer continued to scramble for third. Jones caught Casey on lap 7, while Dancer was able to emerge with third. Jones dove under Casey to grab the top spot on lap 9.

Casey stayed on Jones’ bumper and when Jones got sideways coming off turn 4 Casey had nowhere to go but into Jones. The two both headed for the wall with Jones hitting head on tearing the nose off his Camaro. Casey was able to pit for repairs and return for restart with Dancer now out front. As Dancer and Lyon eased away, Hilla and Denton were fighting for third. At the checkers it was Dancer ahead off Lyon for the win, with Denton holding off Hilla and Casey rebounding for fifth.

Okruhlik Outruns Henley for Pure Stock Honors

After giving away last weeks race on the final lap, Frank Okruhlik bounced back for the win. Okruhlik got past early leader Justin Henley near halfway then was able to distance himself from the field. Henley, again showing he was a contender, held second with Jarrett Barber, Brandy Ramzinski and Sonny Jones filling out the top five.

Henley was quickly out front as green waved on the 20-lap, 18-car Pure Stock feature while Talon Minten, Barber, Mike Harrison and James Watson fell in behind. Barber got along side Minten with Harrison and J. Watson door to door for fourth. Barber and Minten continued their battle, with Okruhlik getting by Harrison and J. Watson for fourth on lap 4. Okruhlik caught the side by side scrap and tried three wide.

Barber and Okruhlik both were able to put Minten back to fourth. Tim Watson spun in turn 4 to bring out a yellow on lap 5. Henley, Barber and Okruhlik took off on the restart running nose to tail. Okruhlik got by Barber for second and was along side Henley for the lead when caution waved for the restart cone that got knocked down the track..

Back under green, Barber was looking up top on Henley, while Okruhlik choose the bottom. Dubba Hawkins found himself facing the wrong way in turn 2 for a yellow. Finally back to green Okruhlik got under Henley for the lead, with Jones getting fifth from Harrison.. As the top three spread out, Jones tried to reel in Ramzinski for fourth.

With two to go, Okruhlik found himself with a comfortable lead over Henley, who had a gap to Barber. Jarret Payton closed in on Jones and Ramzinski in the battle for fourth. At the checkers it was Okruhlik in the Tanner Services LLC. Odie Racing, Ximenex Trucking, MO’s Racing Chassis adding another trophy to his case.

Earnhardt Eases away for Front Runner Win

Charles Earnhardt III went flag to flag for the win in the Front Runner 15-lap feature. Earnhardt was chased early by last years champ, Nick Hencey but stretched his advantage out by halfway. From there the only thing that slowed the young Earnhardt was lapped traffic. Earnhardt held a significant enough lead to take the victory ahead of Hencey, Jimmy Carroll, Cody Smith and Hailee Marcx.

As green waved on the field Earnhardt, from the pole, jumped out front trailed by Hencey, Smith and Eric Jenkins.. Carroll moved up to battle with Jenkins for third while Smith fell back along side Marcx for fifth. As the lead duo pulled away Hencey looked on the high side of Earnhardt for the lead. After holding off Hencey, Earnhardt begin to move away from Hencey who had a big gap back to Carroll.

Marcx was able to get past Jenkins for fourth followed by Smith to fifth. Smith was then able to work his way back past Marcx in the waning laps. Up front it was was Earnhardt catching slower traffic, but not enough for Hencey to close with Earnhardt in the Earnhardt and Sons Automotive, Bubbas Burgers and Fries, Industrial Radiator, C&C Signs and Graphics car easily taking the checkers.

Front Runner heat winner; Jimmy Carroll

White quickly moved to the point from his third place starting position and cruised to the win in the Stock Car feature event, his first event at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in the Stock Car division. Following White across the line were Robin Batt, Jason Batt and Tommy Honey.

In the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature event, White avoided two early accidents and worked his way to the lead from his eighth place starting position. White and opening night winner Chase Jupe battled over the final circuits with White holding on for a half-car length victory. Ben Ketteman, Robert Black and Benji Kirkpatrick rounded out the top five.

Chris Cogburn took advantage of his front row starting position and led all 20 laps of the IMCA SportMod holding off runner up Ronnie Bell. Sidney Kiphen, Kevin Green and Eddie Grmela rounded out the top five.

Additional feature winners included Chris Grusendorf in IMCA Hobby Stocks, Bobby Mercer, Jr. in Street Stocks, Jeff Shepperd in Pure Stocks, Marshall Sauseda in Cruisers, Dylan Shilling in Jr.. Mini Stocks and Johnny Japort in Twisters.
