The Southern Sport Mod Marathon! Possible $1000 to win!

This is an unsanctioned Southern Sport Mod event so Young Guns (under 16 drivers) can race in it.

Draw for heat race positions — no IMCA points. 4 8-lap heats. Top 3 to A main, next 3 to B main, rest to C main. (Will run D-main if necessary)

Meanwhile Chris Henigan probably was thee fastest (with the exception of the #05 car maybe) and opened up a commanding lead only to have his car throw out a left rear spring on a perfectly smooth and racy track. Fortunately for Chris, his win in Texarkana with his Kraft Kar chassis on Friday meant all he had to do was start the feature to clinch the first ever OMT title worth another $1000. Chris’s two wins, the point title and other two finshes netted him $3500 in all for just 4 local races.

While Chris led, old rivals Williams and Jonathan Maxwell battle hard for second as the whole field jockey 2 and 3 wide for positions. Michael Robertson emerged into 4th and had a run to take third from Williams with just enough room on the outside in a daring 3-wide manuver. I don’t think Williams saw him though and the pair touched and forced Michael into the wall enough to cause some damage and eliminate the Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals winner.

Maxwell slid back a little while Jody Davidson, BJ Robinson, Jamie Burford and Jason Ingalls worked their way forward. Davidson was having a great run until he spun in turn two. Lee Patton also began to work his way into the top five after that. Williams led Robinson and Burford with Ingalls charging his way into fourth. The final caution flew with 3 to go. Ingalls slipped off turn four and lost spots. Burford ws rallying on the outside of Robinson but Williams had enough for the win with BJ barely holding off Jamie at the line for second. I think Maxwell was fourth with Skeet Amason edging Lee Patton at the line for fifth. Burford’s #19 was fast at the end but his third place running order meant he had to restart on the inside when his car liked the outside and he would have to let BJ go by before he could get up there. If that last restart had the 19 on the outside,
