PEVELY, Mo. – March 3, 2011 – The 2011 racing season in St. Louis comes to life March 24-26 with the DIRTcar Roundup – better known as the “Party in Pevely” – at storied I-55 Raceway.

One of the largest events in short track racing features eight divisions of DIRTcar UMP Racing with drivers from the Midwest and beyond. The high-banked 1/3-mile track, owned by Ray Marler and NASCAR star Ken Schrader, will welcome the special event that is expected to draw hundreds of racecars during the three-day motorsports extravaganza at the facility just 20 miles south of St. Louis on Interstate 55.

Schrader is just one of the headliners scheduled to compete in the huge grassroots racing weekend.

Hundreds of laps of feature racing will be completed on both Friday and Saturday nights. In addition to DIRTcar Late Models, fans will see DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Limited Modifieds, Stock Cars, Factory Stocks and Sport Compacts all scheduled to compete it will be a huge festival of speed.

“The Party in Pevely is a special event for us, and we want to make sure that everything about it is done right for the racers and fans alike,” said World Racing Group President Tom Deery. “This event is all about the competitors who are coming from all over to be a part of this mega-weekend. With an event like this, it’s important that it is held at such a top-notch facility as I-55 Raceway. The phenomenal job that Ray Marler and his staff at I-55 Raceway do makes it possible for us to conduct such a huge schedule of events in one weekend. Every division of cars will race side-by-side throughout the entire event, and the competitors are some of the most approachable racers in the business.”

Competitors and fans from across the region will not only witness a slate of racing that offers tremendous value, but will also have added entertainment and nightly race parties following the on-track activities to highlight the weekend. Schrader and numerous other special guests from throughout the world of motorsports are scheduled to compete for the prized Belt Buckle Trophy and Silver Roundup Platter that have become synonymous with the DIRTcar Roundup.

The excitement of racing in St. Louis returns with the special three-day “Party in Pevely” followed April 2 and April 9 with Super Fast Saturday racing. On Saturday, April 16, “The Greatest Show on Dirt” returns to Pevely when legendary King of the Outlaws Steve Kinser leads the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars into I-55 Raceway for the Spring Classic. Pevely, MO (August 28th, 2010) Billy Moyer has visited I-55 Raceway three times during the 2010 racing season and has won all three times he has been there. With forty cars on hand for the MARS/UMP DIRTcar Challenge and Moyer drawing a high pill number and having to start near the back of his qualifying heat race, it wasn’t an easy task to claim his third win at I-55 Raceway this season. Moyer would start the main event in the outside of row three with Dennis Erb, Jr. and Jeremy Payne on the front row. Payne would get the lead at the drop of the green flag from his front row outside starting spot. Erb would move into the second spot and constantly badger Payne for the lead in the early laps. Shannon Babb would get into the third spot and make it a three-way race for the lead. As the laps began to click off, Moyer was on the move toward the front. It didn’t take long for the leaders to get into lapped traffic and that would cause the battle for the lead to intensify. Moyer would drive around Babb for the third spot on lap ten, then he would move past Erb for the second spot just two laps later. Just before the half way marker, Moyer flew past race leader Payne. Moyer would proceed to pull away from the field and checked out to win by nearly a half-track margin. It took Moyer less than twelve minutes to finish the entire forty lap feature event that went caution free. Another amazing note, all twenty-four cars that started the main event, took the checkered flag. Shannon Babb would work his way past Erb and Payne to finish in the second position. Payne would hold on for a third place finish with Erb taking fourth. Brian Shirley would round out the top five.

Matt Mevert from Steeleville, Illinois would claim his second UMP DIRTcar Modified feature event of 2010 at I-55 Raceway. Mevert started on the pole and held off an early challenge from Rusty Griffaw to earn the win. A great battled ensued for most of the twenty lap feature event between Tim Hancock, Bobby Bittle and Jim Black for the third spot. Those three drivers swapped the positions back and fourth throughout the main event. Bittle would get the third spot late in the race and then almost ran down second place finisher Griffaw but came up short at the line and settled for third. Hancock would take fourth with Black finishing fifth.

Jeff Herzog led all fifteen laps of the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event en-route to the victory. Troy Naeger stayed on the rear bumper of Herzog for the entire distance, but could never mount a challenge to get along side Herzog for the lead and settled for the second spot. Brad Paquet would move past Trey Harris late in the race and take the third spot with Harris finishing fourth. Steve Edgecombe completed the top five.

The UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stocks had yet another amazing battle for the lead that would see six cars battling for the top spot for most of the event. Jeff Turner led the early laps with Rob Shaw, Justin McCallister, Aron Faulkner, Philip Stuart and Gerald Buechting all battling for the lead. As the cars rubbed fenders and traded paint, Rob Shaw would move into the lead in the closing laps and hang on for the win. Justin McCallister would get the second position with Jeff Turner taking third. Aron Faulkner would get fourth while Philip Stuart rounded out the top five.

Pevely, MO (August 21st, 2010) Scott Weber of Festus, MO backed up his first feature win ever in UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model last week with another victory this week. Weber, who started the main event mid-pack (12th starting spot) quickly shot through the field and took the lead on lap five. It appeared that Weber would go on to dominate the final twenty laps of the main event, however a late race caution for second place running Bryan Collins would restack the field and give Danny Haynes a chance to challenge for the win. Haynes would give Weber a good battle at the end, but Weber was just too strong and held on for the win. Haynes would finish second with Craig Smith finishing third. Rickey Frankel would get the fourth spot with Jeff Johns rounding out the top five.

Rick Conoyer took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the UMP DIRTcar Modified main event and would open up a sizable lead before the caution flew on lap eight. On the restart, Tim Hancock would go to the high side and move past Conoyer for the top spot. The race for second would also heat up as Conoyer would have his hands full with Mark Miner and Bobby Bittle. As Hancock pulled away to take the victory, Bittle would edge Conoyer at the line for second. Conoyer would cross the line third while Rusty Griffaw slipped past Miner to finish fourth. Miner completed the top five.

Trey Harris used the his front row pole starting spot to outrun Troy Naeger into the first turn on the opening lap of the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event. Harris would then hold off the challenges of Naeger for the entire fifteen laps to earn the win. Naeger tried just about every move he could muster to get around Harris, but couldn’t make a pass stick and would have to settle for a second place finish. Jeff Herzog would finish a close third with Danny Ems racing through the field after starting tenth to finish in the fourth position. Brad Paquet rounded out the top five.

The UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stocks ran two feature events as they made up a rained out event from a few weeks ago. In the first feature, Justin McCallister made a late race pass on Aron Faulkner and went on to victory. Faulkner would hold off the challenges from Earl Pryor to finish second. Gerald Buechting would finish fourth behind Pryor and Ben Cochran rounded out the top five.

In the second feature event, McCallister took the lead at the start and then held off the tough challenges from Earl Pryor and Mike McGinnitey in the closing laps to take the win. Pryor would finish second with McGinnitey taking third. Aron Faulkner would finish fourth with Charles David taking fifth.

Pevely, MO (August 14th, 2010) Mother Nature provided the heat and humidity while the racers provided the action! With the heat index over 110 degrees, making it miserable just to be outside, those that ventured out to watch the action at I-55 Raceway were treated to some fantastic racing.

Scott Weber of Festus, Missouri earned his first ever UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model victory! Bryan Collins jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first eight circuits before Weber made his move down the back stretch to move past Collins for the lead. Weber would then pace the field with Collins in his shadow up until the caution flew on lap twenty for Tim Manville slowing in turns three and four. During that caution, Collins would stop on the back stretch for an official to look over his machine. Apparently Collins had run over debris from Manville’s car and put a hole in his radiator as well as some other damage and it would end his night. That would move Nick Lyons into the second spot on the restart. Lyons would try a different line on the restart to make a move on Weber for the lead, but it was the wrong decision and Lyons lost his momentum and allowed Weber to open up a lead of several car lengths. Weber would be too strong at the end for Lyons to catch and he would earn his first ever win in the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models. Lyons would finish second. Danny Haynes charged from the tenth starting spot to finish third. Mark Miner would come home fourth after starting ninth and Ken Rumble came all the way from the sixteenth starting spot to round out the top five.

There were two UMP DIRTcar Modified features on the night’s racing card. The racing action kicked off with a makeup main event for the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds that was rained out back on July 24th. It was Ricky Horton taking the lead at the drop of the green flag and Horton led the first fourteen laps before being overtaken by Rusty Griffaw. Griffaw would move past Horton on the low side as they exited turn two and went down the back stretch. Griffaw would go on to victory. Horton would settle for the second spot. Jim Black had his best feature finish of the season by running third. Brian Worley would claim the fourth spot with Paul Bauman rounding out the top five.

In the second main event for the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, it was Rusty Griffaw backing up the first win with another one. Tim Hancock took the lead from the start, but Griffaw charged from the fourth starting spot to move past Hancock on lap two. Bobby Bittle would also get past Hancock and take over the second spot. That would setup a battle with Griffaw leading using the very bottom line around the track and Bittle using the middle of the track. Meanwhile Mike Harrison was on the move from his ninth place starting spot and working his way toward the front. Dean Hoffman was also on the move after winning the semi-feature and starting nineteenth. Back at the front, Griffaw continued to pace the field with Bittle not far behind, but Griffaw was just too strong and held on to get the win. Bittle would finish second with Harrison third. Hoffman would get the fourth spot with Hancock rounding out the top five.

UMP DIRTcar Sportsman Division National Point Leader and I-55 Raceway Sportsman Point Leader Jeff Herzog powered his way to another victory. Herzog took the lead from pole sitter Trey Harris at the drop of the green flag and the two battled all fifteen laps to the checkered flag. Herzog would edge Harris for the win. Troy Naeger who battled most of the race with Steve Edgecombe for third, finally got the pass completed and finish third. Edgecombe took fourth while Danny Ems rounded out the top five.

Jeff Turner claimed the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event. Turner battled early on with Earl Pryor for the lead and then held off Justin McCallister at the end. McCallister was second and Pryor finished third. Ben Cochran would finish in the fourth spot with Justin Hall completing the top five.

Pevely, MO (August 7th, 2010) Bobby Bittle took the lead at the drop of the green flag from his front row pole starting spot and never looked back. Bittle led from flag to flag for the win. Jeff Leka took over the second spot early in the main event, but was unable to make a serious threat for the lead as Bittle worked lapped traffic flawlessly. Rusty Griffaw would finish third, a few car-lengths behind Leka. Paul Bauman would finish a distant fourth with Ken Rumble taking fifth. Bittle was flying through the field and lapped all but the first eight finishers.

Pevely, MO-August 7, 2010- 55 laps at I-55 Raceway and the Second Annual Ironman 55 came down to the final one and just a couple of feet on the race track as Jason Meyers won a thriller over Lucas Wolfe on the final circuit. Wolfe used a huge slide job coming off turn four to take the lead on the 55th and final lap, with Meyers winning a drag race down the front straightaway by a mere 0.092 seconds, which was the closest finish of the season.

The $20,000 win for Meyers was his eighth of the season and his second career triumph at I-55 Raceway, where he has finished in the Top-10 in each of his last seven starts at the high-banked 1/3-mile co-owned by Ken Schrader and Ray Marlar. The win helped Meyers close to within 46 markers of current point leader Joey Saldana, who finished fifth, while he is just 37 points behind Steve Kinser, who finished sixth on Saturday night and is currently second in the standings.

“To win any race here, let alone a 55-lap race is pretty special,” said Meyers. “We had a great race car tonight and learned some things last night that we were able to use tonight. We just keep getting better day after day. We struggled a bit here in the middle of the season and kept digging and kept our heads down. This entire team is doing an amazing job.”

Meyers took the lead from Tim Shaffer on the 29th lap on the low side of turns one and two and quickly opened a gap once out front. The native of Clovis, California was credited with leading a total of 26 laps en route to the victory. He started on the outside of the front row aboard the GLR Investments KPC and chased Tim Shaffer who started on the pole in the early going, before Sam Hafertepe Jr. took the second spot on the seventh lap. Meyers would move back into the runner-up spot 10 laps later and then worked on Shaffer for the next 13 laps.

“It was a long race and we were a little tight at the beginning, but we set up for that,” explained the winner. “I waited for the car to kind of come to me and it did after the fuel came off a little bit. It ended up being a very good car tonight.”

Wolfe closed the gap on Meyers over the last three laps on Saturday night and with two to go, was all over his back bumper. Coming to the checkered flag Wolfe used a monstrous slide job in turns three and four to take the top spot and charge down the front straightaway with Meyers right behind him. Meyers went low at the start finish/line to inch out the native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

“I was thinking I made the wrong decision when he came by me, but I was able to get back by him,” shared Meyers of the last lap last corner action. “He drove a great race and is a very good driver and has many good years ahead of him. It’s great to race guys like that.”

Wolfe, who lined up third, fell back to fifth on the seventh lap. He worked his way around Joey Saldana on lap-16 to move into fourth, before taking third from Sam Hafertepe Jr. on the 24th go-around. He gained significant ground on Meyers in the late going, giving him a chance at scoring his fist career World of Outlaws A-Feature win.

“I was close there and got a good opportunity at the end to slide him and was pretty good the whole time,” Wolfe said. “At least I got a shot at him. I was following him and kind of biding my time waiting to get a shot and it all came together good there at the end. I just wasn’t quite able to hold him off

Wolfe had a steady night aboard the Allebach Racing Maxim, opening the finale of the Ironman 55 by turning the ninth fastest lap in qualifying, finishing second in a heat race and third in the dash to earn the inside second row starting spot in the 55-lap main event. Following the stock car main event, the track crew at I-55 Raceway did a complete rebuild of the high-banked bullring, providing a very racy surface for the main event.

“It was a great track tonight and I’m glad they worked on it,” said Wolfe. “I wish we raced here more. It was a lot of fun and hopefully we come here a few times next year.”

Tim Shaffer, who opened the Ironman Weekend with a win on Friday night, started on the pole in the finale and led early en route to a third-place finish in the Kistler Engines J&J. He and Sam Hafertepe Jr. traded the top spot unofficially six times over a three lap period from lap 10-12, with Hafertepe officially being credited with the top spot at the line each time, as he used slide jobs in turns three and four to retake the top spot each time after Shaffer used slide jobs in turns one and two to move back out front.

“It was a great race,” stated Shaffer. “We were just a little too tight and those guys were a lot freer. I thought the track would get slicker. We’re happy with third. It was 55 laps and we survived. It was a very good weekend for us.”

Kraig Kinser finished fourth in the Quaker State Maxim to earn his fifth fourth-place finish of the season as he continues to close in on his first win of the 2010 campaign.

Joey Saldana came home fifth in the Budweiser Maxim, one spot ahead of Steve Kinser in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim, to gain a couple of points on the 20-time series champion the series standings. Saldana currently has a nine-point lead over Kinser as he chases his first title.

Donny Schatz came home seventh in the Armor All/STP J&J on Saturday night, with Paul McMahan eighth in the Great Clips Maxim. Kerry Madsen was ninth in the Hall Haulage KPC, with Jason Sides rounding out the Top-10 in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim.

The World of Outlaws return to action on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 with the Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, to kick off the 2010 Gold Rush Tour.
